Vocabulary is vital in helping students understand instructions and texts that they encounter.  One of the ways to unlock the power of words is to transform your students' language skills with the Bringing Words to Life: Robust Vocabulary Instruction (Beck et al., 2013).  During this book study, we will explore principles of robust vocabulary instruction, including selecting high-impact words across all grade levels and content areas, designing engaging instructional segments, and fostering an environment where academic language thrives. Participants will reflect on their current practices, discuss insights with colleagues, and develop actionable strategies to implement in their classrooms.

Sessions will include:

  • Guided reading and discussion of selected chapters
  • Collaborative activities to connect research to practice
  • Opportunities to plan and share instructional strategies
  • Reflection prompts to support professional growth

By the end of the study, participants will have a strong understanding of how to intentionally and effectively build students’ word knowledge, impacting reading comprehension, writing quality, and overall academic success.

Audience:
K–12 teachers, reading specialists, special educators, instructional coaches, and literacy leaders.

Participants must purchase the book before the book study begins. Bringing Words to Life: Robust Vocabulary Instruction (Beck et al., 2013).  ISBN 9781462508167
