Book Study: The Illustrated Guide to Visible Learning—An Introduction to What Works Best in Schools

What if you could confidently identify the practices that have the greatest impact on student learning?

This book study explores The Illustrated Guide to Visible Learning by John Allan Hattie, Douglas Fisher, Nancy Frey, and John Taylor Almarode—a highly accessible introduction to one of education’s most influential evidence-based frameworks. Drawing on over 2,100 meta-analyses and more than 300 million students’ data, this guide breaks down the research into practical, classroom-ready strategies.

Participants will explore:

  • The 11 signature practices proven to accelerate learning

  • How to become more intentional in evaluating impact on student achievement

  • The Visible Learning mindframes that shape effective teaching

  • Strategies for using evidence and feedback to inform decisions

  • Tools to support assessment-capable learners and foster student ownership

Whether you’re a classroom teacher, instructional coach, or school leader, this study offers a clear pathway toward meaningful, measurable improvement in instruction and student outcomes.

Join us as we unpack what works best in schools—and how to make learning truly visible.

Participants of this workshop must purchase The Illustrated Guide to Visible Learning: An Introduction to What Works Best in Schools. (Hattie, Fisher, Frey, & Almarode, 2024). ISBN: 978-1071953099

This book study will meet for four sessions on Wednesdays: Sept 3, Sept 17, Oct 1, and Oct 15.

In addition to reading this book, participants will collaborate in virtual sessions and apply the book’s strategies in their classroom.

A Zoom link will be sent to all registered participants.
