Students may not necessarily like studying science, but they love “doing” science! If you are looking for a great way to engage students in grades 4-12 with energy-related STEM activities that correlate with the Framework for K-12 Science Education and NGSS standards, you will want to make plans to attend this workshop hosted by the Smoky Hill Education Service Center and Trane!

Energy is the lifeblood of our society, and the national focus provides a high-interest topic to “hook” students as they explore the full spectrum of the energy industry from producer to consumer. What is the current energy picture in Kansas? In the United States? What does it look like for the future? Add in the opportunity for your students to compete in the Kansas KidWind Challenge competition, and students will be racing to your classroom to get started! How do we know? We’ve done it and seen it happen repeatedly…and you can do it, too!

Workshop participants will receive a variety of hands-on and engaging classroom activities to aid teaching energy from both an environmental and economic perspective. Topics will also cover scientific methods, as well as data collection and analytics using standards-based and industry-based activities.

Each teacher will receive a free KidWind turbine kit compliments of the Kansas Energy Program.

Lunch will be provided by Trane.
