WELCOME TO SMOKY HILL EDUCATION EVENT INFORMATION
Literacy is the foundation of all learning. All students must transition from learning how to read to reading for learning. This can be especially difficult for students with reading challenges. National data indicates that 69 %of eighth-grade students read below proficiency (NAEP, 2022). These students will continue to experience barriers with literacy skills associated with career and college readiness. Literacy encompasses reading, writing, and speaking, skills that are highly necessary for success. Middle- and secondary-level educators play a vital role in supporting students' literacy development, especially students with reading difficulties. Spend a day learning about literacy in the content area classroom and learn innovative, evidence-based, high-quality instructional strategies that are game changers in the classroom.
Participants will have an opportunity to practice and create several artifacts that can be instantly applied in the classroom.
