WELCOME TO SMOKY HILL EDUCATION EVENT INFORMATION
Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) mandates that students with qualifying disabilities receive specially designed instruction (SDI) so that they can access the general education curriculum and meet the goals and objectives outlined in the individualized education program (Riccomini et al., 2017). This can appear like an insurmountable obstacle. However, using High Leverage Practices (McLesky et al., 2017), special education teachers and teams can vigorously support students with disabilities while ensuring active engagement in the general education curriculum. The first part of this workshop will provide participants with an overview of the 22 High Leverage Practices, the aspects related to the delivery of SDI, collaboration, assessment, social-emotional supports, and instruction. In the second half of the workshop, participants will create HLP-driven activities and have the opportunity to practice using the selected HLPs. The aim is for participants to leave the workshop with several evidence-based tools that can be used instantly in the classroom.
Lunch is on your own.
