Snakes and snails and puppy dog tails.  That’s what little boys are made of.  (Mother Goose nursery rhyme)

Boys are expected to be physical, rugged, and tough.  They are expected to get dirty and have scrapes and bruises.  What we know, however, is that bullying is perpetrated by males, stranger violence is still primarily a “boy thing”, and the majority of violent crimes are committed by males.  We also know that school and workplace violence is almost always conducted by males.  How can we make sense of this violence?

In this workshop, you will gain an awareness of bullying behaviors; the characteristics of the students who bully, the targets of bullying, and the bystanders; and how to redirect and change bullying behaviors.  Participants will also learn what causes a boy to go beyond bullying, beyond just playground fighting to lethal violence.  We will try to make sense of senseless youth violence and learn strategies to prevent youth violence.
