This is a 6-hour overview course on Dyslexia developed by KSDE, and is required for ALL K-6 teachers, SPED teachers, and Middle School/High School ELA teachers.  In 2019, the Kansas State Board of Education approved dyslexia initiatives in Kansas. Schools are required to provide evidence-based professional learning opportunities regarding dyslexia; which includes this overview on understanding dyslexia characteristics, the science or reading, and components of structured literacy.  Under no circumstances will this six-hour training prepare you to fully understand dyslexia, the characteristics of dyslexia, the science of reading, or structured literacy.  This training is to inform you and stretch your teaching practices, help you gain a better understanding of this initiative, and find areas to take deeper dives for your own learning.  This is for teachers who have not participated in this state-developed 6-hour overview on dyslexia before.
